Launching a new e-commerce website and business venture is a big undertaking. When you add in multiple products, services and channels, it becomes even bigger. Diddle & Zen have been my clients since the beginning of their business. I designed their first custom website years ago and have been doing brand photography for them ever since. As the business grew and opened a physical store, it was time for a new website experience for their customers, as well as offering online checkout to take some of the workload off employees taking local orders via telephone. By adding the online store, the business opened up a new revenue stream with nationwide sales.
Many small businesses face the challenge of organizing and presenting a multitude of offerings through multiple service channels. This was also the case for Diddle & Zen. When a client brings this challenge to me, they are often overwhelmed just trying to keep up with the day-to-day, and things can seem a little chaotic behind the scenes. My number one priority in designing a client’s website is to ensure ease of use for the customer or client. I take a long-distance view of everything the business is doing and offer my client ways to simplify and streamline the behind-the-scenes as well as what the client sees. In all honesty, most entrepreneurs could use a second set of eyes on their business with this lens. Improving the customer experience is always worth the time and expense because it will always directly add value to your business (i.e., you can demand more money and attract more sales). Streamlining behind-the-scenes systems will always be worth the investment and time because it creates efficiency.
